About This Event

SVHS invites you to join us on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. for the fifth lecture of the 2023-2024 program season -- " Covering More Ground — Eliza Leet Shields and her Sewickley Valley" presented, in person, by C. Prentiss Orr.

Well before the American Revolution (considered by some cultural historians  to be a Presbyterian Rebellion,) the faithful congregated wherever community formed. Even the earliest days of Sewickley, Edgeworth, and Leetsdale were attended by pastors who traveled the Beaver Road, seeking to calm the fears of early homesteaders with their truth: God was everywhere, and faith conquered all.

Join us on Wednesday, April 17, at the Old Sewickley Post Office Community Room,  when SVHS welcomes back C. Prentiss Orr, author of two recent histories of the Sewickley Valley, for his insights on our valley's first congregations, their ministers, and the benefactors who showed extraordinary faith in building some beautiful, as well as unusual, churches that still stand today.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Advance registration preferred via the SVHS website, or by contacting the SVHS office at 412-741-5315 | info@sewickleyhistory.org.
