Things to know and look forward to for the Winter Tea...
- Doors will open at 2:30pm. We encourage you to arrive then to check -in, make purchases, visit the cash bar, and pick your seat.
- Seating will NOT be assigned. "Reserved" cards will be available at check-in if you arrive before other members of the party you would like to sit with and you are welcome to save seats for them. With few exceptions, seating will be first come, first serve.
- Check-in All guests must check-in. We are nearing capacity with current RSVPs so it is unlikely we will be able accommodate walk-in guests. Mugs and Raffle tickets will be on sale at check -in until 3:30pm. Winner of the raffle basket must be present to win. Winner will be drawn before the start of the lecture at 4pm. SVHS members check Jan./Feb. Signals for information on a voting ballot you will be receiving at check-in.
- Our Tea - Tea will begin at 3pm Tea will be served at a beverage station and the food for the event will be buffet style. Guests can make their selections starting at 3pm. The Menu: AFTERNOON TEA: Warm Chippewa Soup with Sour cream, herb toast, Assorted Tea Sandwiches (Gluten Free Sandwiches Available), Scones with Jelly and Clotted Cream, Fruit Bowl, ACC Cookies, Regular & Decaffeinated Coffee, Hot Tea with Lemon & Honey.
- Our Speaker, Alonna Carter-Donaldson - Lecture will start at 4pm If you’ve seen the YouTube podcast “Unofficial Gilded Age Aftershow” from the Frick Pittsburgh, you’ve already been introduced to the speaker for our Winter Tea and Joint Lecture, Mrs. Alonna Carter-Donaldson. While at the Frick as the Inaugural Burke Family Research Fellow, her work centered on the experiences of African-Americans in Pittsburgh’s Gilded Age. A freelance writer, she has also just completed an MA in Public History and is a Visiting Lecturer in the University of Pittsburgh’s Gender Sexuality and Women’s Study Program. As such, we are delighted that she will be the SVHS speaker next month, talking about “The Haves and Have Nots” in our area during the Gilded Age.
- SVHS Mug Drink Special Purchase a mug when you check in and receive a voucher for one free drink from the cash bar -- including a Hot Toddy that will be offered as our specialty drink for the event. Price includes mug, one free drink (wine, beer, non-alcoholic, or hot toddy), and supports SVHS.
- Cozy Tea” Basket Raffle Purchase a ticket for our “Cozy Tea” Basket Raffle when you check in to the event. The basket includes an assortment of tea and history-related items to make sure you can continue your own Winter Tea from the comfort of your home.
You can pay for these items with cash, check, or credit card the day of the Tea. Cash is preferred.
