Who We Are

Since 1973, Sewickley Valley Historical Society has been Sewickley’s timekeeper. We preserve and share history through our collections, events, programs, and community partnerships.

Our offices and archives are in the Old Sewickley Post Office Building. Amanda Schaffer is our executive director and Deanna Berryman is our administrative assistant. Our volunteer board of directors contribute their time and knowledge.

Explore Our Collection

We accept donations related to the history of the 11 municipalities of the Quaker Valley School District. Our collection has over 12,000 items dating from the early 1700s to today.

Books, documents, maps, photographs, newspapers, obituaries, family and house histories, scrapbooks, and clothing comprise our collection.

Research and Reading Room

Our members may explore the fascinating items in our collection, and use our reading room and archives for research, guided by our staff. Visits are by appointment only.

SVHS is not part of Sewickley Borough’s Historic Review Commission, the group that reviews and approves changes to properties in the three Historic Districts in the Borough.

Accomplishments

Since 1973 we’ve contributed to:

• Cataloging Sewickley Valley history, including nearly 200 historic photographs from the Bicentennial Gallery
• Publication of historic books, postcards, notecards, maps, and music
• Preservation of monuments, memorials, properties and architectural artifacts, such as the four finials from the original 1911 Sewickley Bridge (on our logo!) and railings from the 1895 Sewickley Elementary School
• New street signs marking Sewickley’s three historic districts
