About This Event

SVHS invites you to join us on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. for the first lecture of the 2025-2026 program season -- “A Quest for Knowledge: 160 years of the Sewickley Query Club”.

Founded in 1865 by Reverend Dr. Joseph Bittinger, minister of the Sewickley Presbyterian Church, to encourage an examination of history and literature and to foster a pursuit of lifelong learning, the Sewickley Query Club is one of the Sewickley Valley’s oldest institutions. For the last 160 years, inquiring minds have come together to find and share the answers to history’s questions.

Join us on Thursday, September 25, when SVHS welcomes members of the Sewickley Query Club as they share the history of the storied club presented, by Marilyn Knotts. Query Club president, Janet Oellig, will give lecture attendees a taste of a Query Club meeting when she presents her 2024-25 Query Club paper, “The Drug Store Soda Fountain"– the inspiration for the preceding ticketed event of the evening “A Bite of History, Soda Fountain Edition.”

This lecture will be held at Old Sewickley Post Office, 200 Broad Street, Sewickley, PA 15143.

This lecture portion of the evening (the lecture) is FREE and open to the public. Advance registration HERE, or by contacting the SVHS office.
